Gaëtane Bouchez
Was born on the 19th November 1962 in Mons in Wallonia.
Her father was an Accountant, her mother a Dancing Instructor.
Gaëtane studied at the “Stedelijk Instituut voor Ballet” in Antwerp. She received a scholarship for the school Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal.
She danced with the Royal Ballet, both in Flanders and in Wallonia (Belgium). For a few years she danced with the National Ballet in Marseille under the direction of Roland Petit.
Since 1989 she has been involved with the Harlekijn Dance Theatre as dancer and actress, while also studying to become a dancing instructor at the “Opéra de Paris”.
Apart from being an exceptional dancer, Gaëtane Bouchez is also a revelation as an actress. She excelled as “Laura” in the beautiful musical theatre show “The First Lady”, an ode to Jacqueline Bouvier-Kennedy. A show which received international acclaim.
Her role in Mata Hari is praised everywhere. Based on the exhibition of Herman van Veen, “Schuldig of Naïef – beeldende kunst over leven, werk en dood van Mata Hari” (Guilty or naive – expressional art about the live, work and death of Mata Hari), Gaëtane records a CD, “Chansons du temps perdu”, with songs and music from 1900-1920, accompanied by Saskia Lankhoorn on the piano.
In May 2008 she plays the American woman in the dance show “We’re watching you”, written and directed by Herman van Veen and performed by the Harlekijn Dance Theatre for The 8th World Biomaterials Congres in the RAI in Amsterdam.
She translates Dutch poetry and prose into French, including Mata Hari. Since 2003 she has been the artistic director of the Harlekijn Dance Theatre.
